Easy and inexpensive basket from waste materials!
If you have some spare materials lying around, why not put them to good use and make your own basket? Baskets are always handy to have around the house, and you can make them in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Best of all, making your own basket is a great way to recycle and up cycle waste materials.
To make your own basket, you will need:
- Materials of your choice (e.g. fabric scraps, old clothes, plastic bags, newspapers)
- Scissors
- A needle and thread (or a sewing machine)
- Beads, buttons or other embellishments (optional)
Instructions:
Step 1. Gather your materials. You can use just about any type of material to make your basket, so get creative! If you’re using fabric, old clothes or plastic bags, you will need to cut them into strips.
Step 2. Start weaving the strips together, using a needle and thread (or a sewing machine) to secure them in place.
Step 3. Once you’ve reached the desired size, shape and/or design of your basket, finish off the weaving by securing the end strips in place.
Step 4. If you want, you can now decorate your basket with beads, buttons or other embellishments.
