Easy and stylish way to reuse your old plain saree!
With the growing trends of upcycling and DIY, more and more people are looking for ways to recycle and repurpose their old clothing. One popular way to do this is by converting an old saree into an umbrella sleeve top. This is a simple project that can be done in just a few steps, and it’s a great way to give new life to an old piece of clothing.
What You’ll Need:
- Old saree
- Pair of scissors
- Needle and thread
- Measuring tape
- 1/2 yard of elastic (optional)
Step 1: Cut the saree into two equal pieces. One piece will be for the front of the top, and the other piece will be for the back.
Step 2: Measure how wide you want the front and back pieces to be. The width will depend on your own personal preference, but a good starting point is anywhere from 12 to 14 inches. Once you have decided on the width, cut both pieces to that size.
Step 3: Hem the edges of both pieces so that they don’t fray. If you’re using an elastic waistband, this is also the time to sew it onto the bottom edge of one of the pieces.
Step 4: Sew the two pieces together at the sides, making sure to leave enough space at the top for your head to fit through. If you’re not using an elastic waistband, this is also the time to sew on some sort of closure so that you can put the top on and take it off easily.
